Actually, we were giving them money for a long time, and only very recently if at all did we cut it...

They have a crap load of resources and laborers. Thus they can steam roll things, they are having a bit of a food problem though, not allot of room to farm and thus they pump stuff with pesticides...

Lol, CIA? But that's America.

And yeah, it's pretty stupid that no one is allowed to critisize how the country is run.

It doesn't matter if League is American. We're talking about how the Chinese government would ban it. Why would the CIA ban it?

Think about it. ;)

Because League may have been seen to be supporting communism, so the CIA would shut this page down so others wouldn't follow suit.

Haha, you sort of tried to have some sort of valid arguement about our pointless banter... but the problem is, it's easily countered by: no, the CIA wouldn't.

Yeah, it's obvious they wouldn't do it. They would probably have quite a hard time doing it because I think the website is based in Latvia! At least that is where the admin is from.

League was just critising America's censorship.

Yeah, actually. I knew someone who was argueing with someone from the USA on MSN, and that guy just didn't seem to have been taught the same history as we had.

It was just weird.

"There's a saying down in Texas... I know we're not in Texas, but there's saying that goes... I've forgotten!"

Something like that, it was quite a while ago.

Lmao! Anybody got any video links to these epic Bush quotes?

But yeah, I don't want to say I agree EMB, but it might be sort of true, on a whole. Of course there are smarter Americans than the average brit... but I do think there is a sort of filter of the information Americans get about their own country and history.

Eh, I wouldn't say that. China is moving towards a more open economy. For example, foreign companies (like McDonald's) are being allowed to open up there. Also, more people are starting to form their own business, which wouldn't be allowed in a totally Communist state.

However, the government does continue to keep elements of the communist system, such as limited freedom of speech, etc.

Also, education is highly censored by the government. There was an exchange student at my school recently, and he was taught and truly believed that the Tiananmen Square incident in the 90s never occurred. He said that the US made it up to make China look bad.

I believe that within 10 - 15 years, China will get rid of the communist system, but there will still be traces of it, similar to what's happening in Russia. They are technically a democratic country, but there are many institutions of government that are leftover from the Communists. For example, they have universal healthcare, where the government pays for it. Also, most public universities are free, and they actually pay you a small amount of money if you get good grades.

Straying onto America, again... but lol:

And more on-topic, yeah, I heard about the Tianenmen Square thing was pretty much completely unkown to the public there. That is crazy.
