I'm not sure it's exactly the thought I meant when I wrote the title, but if your this far, I'll go on.

Why do you each dislike certain forms of music, or certain bands? I don't claim to like everything, and I have my reasons. I'm just curious. Why people claim to hate certain bands or styles, or lump them in with other groups? I hear the word poser thrown around a lot, but I'm curious what it means to you?

I guess I have a lot of questions wrapped in one. I think a lot of it goes beyond the fact that people don't like the music, I think a lot of people associate image and popularity with the style/band, and that also affects their taste in music.

I hate emo's because they are annoying as fuck. ALWAYS thinking they have real problems, and ALWAYS whining about it.

I hate emo bands because they make shite "music", all sound the same, and are whored out WAY too much.

i dont really hate any particular genre of music tbh.

i find it hypocritical of rap or hip hop musicians to talk about the "ghetto" in their lyrics and profit from this when they live in huge mansions and live luxurious lifestyles unlike the poverty and crime that goes on in areas of slum housing.

i find the cockiness of people like luke pritchard and jonny borrell as annoying but i like the music.

to answer your question i believe a lot of it comes down to stereotypes, peoples beliefs about "selling out" and "underground" music

we seem to have struck quite a deep subject i think.

I think its pretty much come to the point where you can almost tell a persons taste in music by theyre fashion alone, its like theyre the same thing. Punks, Emos, Goths, Rockers, you can tell what music they like straight away. And fuck yeah Skold, emos really do suck. The way theyre always the same, theyve all got "issues" as they put it and they all have to miserable and listen to my chemcial romance all the time.

I hate emo music too, it's so whiny! And it is all the same to me.
I don't like rap or mainstream or any radio music (unless it is rock radio) because we are all entitled to our own opinion.

Poser means someone who tries to be something they are not, to me.
I kinda think of a poser & a sellout as the same thing, selling out, changing your sound for people for the money, and not cause you want to

No, because that song is talking about being lost in drugs. What do Emos write about? Girls "ripping their hearts OW-OW-OUT!", which ends with them cutting their bitch-selves.

The razor caressed my flesh
and my arms turned red, I feel a vast desire
Years of pain are flowing down my arms.
Sweet, red, warm stream you drink, make me released
Give me your hand, let me make you feel the ease,
in the bed of razors we bleed together...

about cutting, yes.. emo, no. =p

It may not be emo, but it's gay as hell. Seriously, cutting is the most retarded shit in the world. And don't give me this "well, it's like, the only pain they can control, man" shit, because if they can control it, why not control it and NOT HURT THEMSELVES!?!?!?

Seriously, they should just put a .45 Magnum in their mouth's, and pull the God damned trigger.

If they would stop being little bitches and just decided that they can actually MAKE THEMSELVES HAPPY BY DOING SOMETHING FUN, they wouldn't have emotional pain. If they want change, they gotta make it happen. But what do they do? They sit around crying all day and posting on myspace. Why don't they change? Because they're afraid their little bitch-ass emo friends will dis-own them for not being little bitch ass emos anymore.

well theres 2 kinda emos, the kind who are truly depressed and theres nothin to help... and the kind who WANT to be emo

i remember when i played halo literally all day to keep myself from goin crazy, but i almost ended up killing myself anyway, so sometimes just doin something fun doesnt help

the only way out of depression is to just simply get over it. no matter how hard it may be, just man-up and get over it. It may sound cruel or whatever but thats seems to be the only way that worked for me.

i "hate" anything without skill. i dont like any pop, most have 3rd rate voices with 6th rate "bands". rap, because any moron can buy 60 pounds of fake gold and silver are where it around ther neck and on teeth, anywhere... i wouldnt be suprised to se one like janet jacksons bra, have like gold balls lol. b4 in another threaad i said the rules of dragonforce when writing music, well hears the rap rules, yay!!

1)you must repeate a line 3 or more times, it never gets old.
2)if u dont talk about smackin ur hoes, beating ur bitches, doing drugs, or fking somthing ur not a true rapper
3)lyrics:hah! i dont write them, some fatass lady/man thinks of them. too complicated to think of 3 words consisting of hoe, bitch, and weed.
4)u must have a min of 60 pouns of FAKE jewerly, anywhere on ur body, teeth, neck, ankle, head, balls, anywhere.
5)u MUST shop in the xtra xtra size department, tht way ur cloths fit, *pants down to ankle, shirt coverin knees, ripped jeans, flat twited hat coverin ur eyes, yep cloths tht fit!*
6)u must think of a totlly original dance, like tapping ur shoe, or proving ur head is hollow by hitting it and having a "delay" effect.
7)make sure ur dj gets none of the credit he deserves.
8)a min of 60 or more words must be mumbled so no 1 can understand it. *tht is if the "song" is 60 words long, lol*
9)move hands in up and down motion with 2 or more widley spread fingers and one arm across chest.
10)make little white jewish dudes try to be like u by making a fool of urself, by doing the above, the world can be like ur 10 iq.

hey phip come up with some pics of what im describing, i have a feeling it will be good.

****this doesnt represent the 1% rqapper pop who rapped to mean somthing and came up with ther own stuff, u know government protesting, society protesting, not 2days bs****

@BODOM

When I say do something fun, I mean go out arcades and such. Do something fun like that, and you can't help but have a good time. Now, there are "true emos", but their actual name is "loner". We're the kind of people who are genuinely weird, have little to no friends, etc.

Do we whore it out? No, we suck it up and are happy/thankful for what we have.

I dig music that inspires me and grooves with the way I live my life. For example, I don't especially enjoy heavy metal (screaming and such) and punk or this new "insert-nonsense-word-here"-core because I'm a pretty laid back guy, and the sound that music has just doesn't jive with me. I also lean a lot on the backbeat, and that's what jazz, blues, and funk are all about. I agree with Joe, hate is poor wording. I think you're kidding yourself if you think you hate the music, you more often than not hate the people playing it. All these comments about "Emo's" are prime examples. I don't enjoy their music, therefore I turn it off. That's my two cents.

maybe some one should write a lesson on emo....kidding

see, i'm a bit older than you guys. back in my day we did not have emo, sorry for my ignorance.

My question about NIN was the lyric "I cut myself to see if i still feel".

Is that from the song "Hurt"? I think in that instance he was talking about pricking himself with a needle, i.e. heroin addiction.

Yeah, I thought so too, but I figured he may have known better than I do, since I haven't heard the song in a while.

So I don't think it's an emo song. I don't think Johnny Cash would do a cover of an emo song.

Sorry I got the lyric wrong I have not listed to in a long time except for skold's version.

Johnny cash covered the song because to him it was a great gospel song. His version was one of the most haunting songs i have ever herd.

Johnny Cash was the man. I don't believe NIN counts as an emo band. Some emo bands write a lot of lyrics about hurting themselves though, but another point to be made, I don't think emo kids know what emo music is anymore. I mean, you can name some "emo" bands, but a lot of those bands are just pop music.

Emo used to just mean pissed off, and kind of fell in with Punk. You needed a Jimmy Paige or Toni Iommi to start a band, and so people said, "Screw that, we'll start our own bands". Yeah, now it just means whiny and bitchy, but I think there was definately a meaning at one time.
