i play guitar yet i cant play guitar hero. it's alot harder for me to play for example hanger 18 on guitar hero than on real guitar. very strange that 5 buttons and a little bar is hard to grasp for the guitar playing community. i was reading a random article on UG and apparently slash cant even play it that well, so there you go.

I don't have any of the Guitar Hero or Rock Band games, mostly because I would rather spend $90 (or whatever the game/controller costs) on gear for my real guitar. I could buy an overdrive pedal that will last me for years for $90, but a year or two from now, there'll be a new Guitar Hero, and the old one will be almost obsolete.

But I'm bad at those games anyway, and I don't really want to practice to get better at them, especially if its time I could spend practicing real guitar!

I play Rock Band (it kills Guitar Hero) and of course, real guitar. I am a lot better at real guitar than I am at Guitar Hero and Rock Band though :P

I'm a noob pwner at both and on real instruments, I started gaming before real instruments making me feel like a douche but meh, point is that I dig playing with buddies but real instruments are my preference

They seem like fun games, but I agree with GRX. There are a lot of haters when it comes to Guitar Hero and Rock Band... but it's just a game, people need to relax a bit.

I don't play them though, haven't really got the time to get good on them.

I was at a friend's house party and played rock band with some kids from another school, I was fairly inebriated and continuously pressed the... "go" button. They couldn't figure it out for a while, but once they did the bastards made me play bass (I accidentally clicked expert). After many, many streaks of the green button I got 80 or 90 percent, I was pretty pumped. Those guys were really good, though. The drummer got, something like 96 and the other guys were about the same.

In conclusion, the games are pretty fun, but it's not necessarily "cool" if you're good at them. At best it's just sort of impressive.

Never played rock band, but I tried guitar hero and thought it was pretty fun. I think it is good for hand eye coordination and helps train your hands to work in unison. Though, I always found the real deal easier and more rewarding. Those games take away the creative aspect of playing around with fills and such

There are 2 things I do hate about the games:

1. Some get very cocky because they're good at it (face it, it's nothing to be proud of.)

2. Some ONLY listen to the music on that game, and nothing else. I don't like when people say "I only know [insert VERY famous song title here] from Rock Band/Guitar Hero"

But I have a question about Rock Band,
So here it goes:

We know that you can sing and play the guitar controller at the same time in the game, and eventually you can do it pretty well in the game... Would this help you with singing and playing on the real guitar, at all? Just a though.

Btw, Nice story, Crunch. :P

Ive been gamer since '84... yeah, before PC... and I think these GH, singstar and so on games are fresh welcomers in todays "single dude alone on computer playin grinding games with coca cola" games. Those are party games... and wonderful party games... what could be better, gaming with good music... I cant think any...

Like Empirism stated, I think one of the factors that makes these games fun (for me, at least) is the good music. I really appreciate that the people who developed these games put a lot of really good songs by a lot of really good bands in their games. It does breed a lot of the scenarios where someone says "The only Red Hot Chili Peppers song I know is Higher Ground" and then me asking "That's kind of an obscure song, how do you only know that one?" Them: "Guitar Hero." Me: "Seriously?"

It's annoying when people do that.
But some of the music sucks, and is very annoying in those games, but most of it is pretty cool.
But those games are best when playing them with friends, after a while when playing them alone, it starts getting boring.

One good thing is, is that it has introduced me to new bands, like An Endless Sporadic.
I don't challenge people to a Guitar Hero battle, I challenge them to a real guitar battle.
Plus, I think i have gotten too good for GH3, I am ready for GH4.
Yeah, it's called Guitar Hero: On Tour, but I don't care. I'm calling it GH4. That's that.

Im a natural gamer.. GH and RB came easily to me. Guitar took some time, but I got used to it.

I play GH and RB for when Im with friends and they can't play guitar, so we play a game so it's ike they are playing. I mean... not everyone can be as gifted as you are.

Well Empirism, I believe some of that to be true because if yer really good with real guitar and have strong fingers, a sense of rhythm, and can move fast on the real thing, then you can probably do it across 5 buttons and a bar.

Other than that, I disagree.

Well, GH does have it's flaws, especially when on lower difficulties. As a guitarist, I'm used to speeding up and slowing down songs when I play them. You can't really do that in GH when you want to, and with that you have to follow the song to its originality.

I mean... even some cover bands put their own little twist in it...

I have learned never to play a song exactly to the original, because it doesn't add any spice, any funk, any groove to it. You need to make it unique. Some people don't like it, other people love it. Just gotta find your mark :)

As for GH and RB: they aren't made for guitarists...

It's actually hilarious trying to play guitar hero. I'm so used to playing a guitar with strings and playing beyond the fifth fret. But you get the hang of the game once you've practiced.

But I grow tired of the songs that are on there (hence my name). Perhaps one day I’ll create my own... give everyone a REAL challenge!! :D

haha damn right!

GMG, it's not. It's not anything like it apart from the fact that it's shaped like a guitar. But it's a means of entertainment and making people feel like they can play guitar.

Guitar Hero took their idea off of some 5-9 year old toy sold in Argos made about 4 years ago.

I can't stand guitar hero, my freinds play it all the time and it bores me so much. I had to laugh once though, in music someone said they were told to play 'The H chord' on it before, WTF!?!?! If nobody knows what thew H chord is here, then it must be an educational game! :P
