when learning scales

when learning scales, i found it easyer to learn the shape or pattern first and then going back to starting and finshing on the root after i get the pattern down
i was woundering if that seems f-ed up or is it ok, must be ok cuz i seem to learn that way {imo}

i just memorized the 5 positions of the major scale, remember where the root not of that shape is, and then i have every major, minor, and mode scale memorized by default. melodic and harmonic minor have to be done on their own. and the minor pentatonics, but those are super easy.
