hey, now seeing how populated this site got i wana say some things,

1)i belive some rules should be put forth, i h8 rules but i think these are appropiate
a)no serious flaming, commen courtesy, no just saying u suck or ur songs suck, make a general point, explain y or say it in a nicer way
b)no making stupid/innapropiate/totally non-related threads, u know
c)no spamming or meaningless posts, kinda like taylorc, remember tht? he just would say meaningless things.

also i wnt to say i like the layout of the site, very simple easy to understand, i like the recent discussed threads at the center, very orderly. dont change tht plz. i h8 the way ultimate guitar is layed out, feel free to add suggestions, i also think ther should be a warning if u do this stuff, and if u constantly do this u should get banned for X amount of time. lso dont go off topic to where its unrealated thts just annoying, i have done some of these and will try to stop,

-wareagle!

Agreed,
Let's stay on topic (guitar, music) and see if we can't eliminate some of the usless chit chat. I am a major offender and promise to back off the useless chatter.
I would hope to see some of our former regulars return to this forum and i suspect they have been watching but not participating because the non-guitar posts have gotten out of hand.
Come back guys,
Phip

I think it's a good thing to have, at least, some non-music threads. It allows for a greater sense of community, especially considering that I doubt you'll really learn about anyone by their opinions on chord voicing.

That is true, we just dont want our site turning into one of those useless sites where people post whatever they want and they dont even know how to play guitar

Like tele once said, he dont anymore particapate any other than music related posts, anyway... but then we can ignore or have general chat section deleted too if we dont want to participate on shitchat. because define what is stupid and whats not is an line drawn on water.

Crunch have some point yes.

@relaxed

I completely agree, but I did giggle a bit reading that as the word 'Baudelaire' immediatly sprang to mind! But yes rules should be in order, most people here are great and helpful, I hate this place being ruined by the select few.

Oksy, I'll suggest a few places where if people here want, not that I'm expecting you all to join, if you like posting anything go to Current.com, or if you just like message boards alone with fewer readers, or if you want your own board make one for free on proboards.com, and people will have occasianal off topic posts to lighten thing's up but are'nt too serious like the 9/11. That agreed with you all so far?

Wait, someone asked what timezone we're all in? :D That's pretty darn silly!

Totally agree with Crunch and Empirism. I've searched a lot of music related sites over the months and joined this one because it's the only one I've found that fulfills it's role as an informative and helpful guitar site AND retains a sense of humor. Most of the others get really poe faced in their efforts to be taken seriously. Music is all about fun. Why shouldn't we have a bit of fun with each other while we're making it?

And I'm not talking about taking the piss to the point of cruelty!!!

You know, after a certain number of registered users all messageboards are ment to have basic rules 'No recism, multiple accounts, personal insults, etc) maybe AGC had reached that by now? I'm not certain what the number is for all sites to have to adopt those laws though.

It cracks me up that this thread is surrounded by threads that have taken ridiculous turns. Look, I try to ignore the threads that are irrelevant, though I'm as guilty as anyone on taking the bait on subjects that I have strong beliefs in. The off-topic threads seem to have become increasingly rampant and trite, I agree, but the question has to be if we begin limiting our speech, where do we draw the line? Alot of these topics have nothing to do with guitar, but do they not help you gain insight to the thought processes of your peers which are here to help answer any questions you have in playing? If I write a politically incendiary song, can I not share it b/c we don't want to discuss politics? Does the great Megadeath vs. Metallica debate belong in a music appreciation forum, rather than a guitar players forum? Are Phip's hysterical comments/pics inappropriate b/c many times they are random thoughts? Look, whatever everyone else wants to do, I'm on board; but, I am not sure I'm ready to censure comments when I have the choice to not click on the link. This site, IMO, is the best organized, easiest, most entertaining that I've come across. Admin has really done a fantastic job! And I think that I'm lucky to have found it.

I don't know what needs to be done. When I joined this site it was the best. People talking about music and the odd ball topic every once in a while. Now it's all odd ball stuff with a few music topics here and there. This site had a lot to offer a guitarist when I joined, but not so much anymore. The older members will remember Doz, Guitarslinger, and a lot of other good members who were here to share their musical knowledge and to learn as well, but they stopped posting when this stopped being a guitar site. I have to say I don't get what I'm looking for from this site anymore.

Yah, I remember that as well, I would always come here if I had a guitar question or wanted to learn more about theory, but now theres too many topics that have nothing to do with guitar

I just ignore the non-guitar topics. Like when I got on here a few minutes ago, this is what I saw as the most recent topics:

-Slide Guitar
-suggestion
-I'm gonna ask a lady over (dinner/movie)
-I Want That
-How can anyone like GG Alin?
- i h8 this kid.....
-Well Isn't this something...

So out of 7 topics, at best 2 are guitar related ("Slide" and "I Want That"). And to be honest, "I Want That" isn't really a discussion. I guess "GG Alin" and "Well Isn't this something" could have been music related, but they've kind of degenerated into arguing. I'd say "i h8 this kid" isn't, since it's just "oh wow, he sucks, I like his gear". "Dinner/Movie" isn't that bad of a thread, but I don't have any interest in it. "Suggestion" (this one) is ok, since it's discussing the site...

I posted in them before, but I don't really care anymore. I just skip over them now.

That used to be me, way back when. I was very stupid and immature though.

I do agree that some rules and guidelines etc. should be layed down. The LAST thing we need is another UG.

Well, Phip's a natural joker, and the stuff he posts IS funny. So I don't see why you need to find that really annoying.

Also, the reason for general chat, is because it is general conversations.

In all honesty, this site is by far the best compared to the others, even with this general chat stuff that's going on. Do you all think it's just as bad? Seriously?

There's loads of topics which we're all helping each other on, and everyone's grateful. But I think Crunch is right when he says that it helps us all to get to knnow each other more. It's nice to hear other people's opinions on random things, I think anyway.

I don't think banning is necessary. This place is always helpful, and banning someone from learning is kind of weird. Also none of us are admins so it wouldn't really be possible to do it anyway.

The forums were better before because the Topics were relevant to guitar or music. A random topic here or there is ok but its become like a public restroom more and more people leave their crap lying around and its the admins job to flush it.

I suppose, considering this is a music website.

But I do like to hear all of your opinions on things every now and then. Even though I haven't started a general chat topic.

Jazzy, I don't find Phip's comments annoying in the least... Read Carefully. My point is how far people really want to go to censure all of us. I personally don't want any restrictions placed upon my comments, but there are many who are gun ho about it. Phip's comments are great!

Well, banning... banning someone permanently is really hard on net and needs much knowledge, anyway our admin doin great job, but if we talk of banning, there need knowledge how to block certain ip-addresses to the site and that is technically kind of difficult I believe.

even in general chat there things goin "out of hand" or over popular acceptance or even over good taste, those kind of things happen every forums and its admin job to keep site clear and we seen and I have complete faith to our admin in that case and have my full acceptance and support if he ever delete any my post or threads if he see that are necessary.

Cheers!

Ah no, I wasn't aiming that remark at you CTown, I know you enjoy his commedy.

Yeah, I can't remember if I actually posted the comment or not, but I made a joke about nipples (or possibly in my head) and it was gone, so I thought it was deleted. Now I just can't remember if I posted it or not! haha

if you're idle for too long, it sometimes logs you out and you don't end up posting. I'd be amazed that anyone would take exception to nipples with some of the messed up threads out there right now... (not a complaint by the way... to each their own)

I don't know, usually I'm still signed on three days later. Every now and then it logs me out, but for some strange reason it's not happening all that much anymore.

I bet it was because I'm a girl, and it was suggestive. hahaha

This thread is not about Waffles.

Waffles > Pancakes.

But in all sarcasm, we need more music orientated posts. A few threads unrelated to music are cool, but not too many.

However, I don't want anyone nagging me because "YOU POSTED SOMETHING THAT WASN'T ABOUT MUSIC IN GENERAL CHAT!1!! ZOMG!". Seriously, what do you think General Chat is for?
