hey i need help. u know going up and down the pentatonic scales in thirds, the way most/some ppl do. lke mr.crowley by ozzy, the solo. well i cant play them fast, i can pick them in eights at a speed of 150 on the metranome but not faster, i wana go into the 16ths or w/e u know what i mean. i cnt do tht w/e being sloppy, any one have suggestions of good excersizes to practice to get more acurate on the scales, both pentatonic and maj modes in thirds. tnx.

Work on your chromatic scales and build up speed like that. Its less complicated, but still has the feel of a usual scale.

e------------------------------12345/7-------------------------------
b------------------------12345---------------------------------------
g-------------------1234---------------------------------------------
d-------------1234--------------------------------------------------
a-------12345--------------------------------------------------------
e-12345--------------------------------------------------------------

I just made it up, try it I guess.

Chromatics are excellent for warm-ups or just practicing speed/accuracy. If you do them all over they'll help you get a better feeling for fret spacing as well (I guess that's part of accuracy, oh well).

By "all over" I mean all over the fretboard :)

ye somtimes i just go up nd down the scales, but i mean in thirds like this

e--
b------------------------------------------------------------5---5-6-
g------------------------------------------------5---5-7-5-7---7-----
d------------------------------5---5-7-5-7-8-7-8---8
a------------5---5-7-5-7-8-7-8---8-
e--5-6-8-6-8---8-

and continue through a phyrgian. same for pentatonic

e------------------------------------------------------5---5-8-
b------------------------------------------5---5-8-5-8---8-----
g------------------------------5---5-7-5-7---7-
d------------------5---5-7-5-7---7-
a------5---5-7-5-7---7-
e--5-8---8-

thts pentatonic, i wana do those fast like in mr.crowley but can only do those thirds in eighth notes as fast as 170 on the metranome b4 messing up. are there qany excersizes to help get those faster besides just doing those scales, i also was thinking of somthing like starting on a maj the going through each mode like this

e--
b--
g-----------------------------------------------------------------9
d------------------------------6---6-7-6-7-9-7-9-11-9-11-12-11-12-
a------4---4-5-4-5-7-5-7-9-7-9---9-----
e--5-7---7-

and so on...going through each mode, like ionian, dorian, phrygian, mix, lydian, aeolian, locrian, and finish on ionian. any other excersizes? tht is for thrids.

You have to use a metranome at say 80 and play so slow that it sucks. You'll notice that even playing that slow you will make slight mistakes here and there but do that for a half hour a day for 5 days until you can play each scale to perfection. Take two days off then start again and then go up to 100 and so on until you reach your desired speed and accurracy.

I did this and it works!
