I really like watching the world cup, other than that, I can't tell what's going on in the "big picture." Most importantly to me, soccer does give Sports Illustrated its best "Signs of the Apocalypse." This week's: "A mob of Argentine soccer fans hijacked two city buses at knifepoint to get to a match in Buenos Aires on time."

A mob of of Mexican gangsters held a group of magicians at gun point one day. While all the other magicians were scared, one simply looked back at them and said under his breathe, "Don't worry....watch this...". He then threw his voice and said, "FUUUUUUUUTBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!".

I gotta stop smokin that stuff, boy! I tell ya...

in soccer i think you get a red card (warning) and a yellow card (idk what tht means) not the biggest soccer guy, but anyway, i saw this game of mexico vs. united states, a player for mexico kicks a u.s. in the shin, he gets a red card. he screams CRAP and kicks him again. he gets another red card, the outta anger puches the ref. he then gets a yellow card, and just before shooting the judge he says "the next one i get is a green card right?" sorry i had to.

FOOTBALL! Not that I like the sport, but that's it's REAL NAME! GRRR! Where 'Soccer' came from I don't even know. I blame American (NOT football, so I call it...) SOCCER, as it ripped off rugby wuith lots of padding, slightly altered the rules and stole FOOTBALL'S name! Make me so ANGRY!!!!

But of those back on subject...Mexico...

The name soccer comes from football's full name - Association Football. From what I've seen of American Football, I can't understand why it's so popular. Just seems like one set piece after another and when a team loses possession, all the attackers come off to be replaced with the defenders. In proper football, EVERYONE needs to know how to attack and how to defend, and there are much fewer breaks in the play. What's with all the padding? They don't have all that in Rugby.

And why is it called football seeing as most of the time the ball is played with the hands?

I agree! A protection cup is forgiveable but all the padding's just plain crazy. I say it should be named not hand ball, but...errr, padding. Okay, I'm sleepy now so I can't think of a snappy comeback at thier name other then handball, but let's praise the name of padding anyway. Terrible crack or not.

I rememberwatching a documentary a few weeks ago with that Stephen Fry in it, he went to an American football game in a collage in Alabama, I was amazed! It looked like is was a mix of a international cup final for top of the wolrd league and the Bejing oplimpics, it was bizzare.

Have you ever played American Football? The padding is necessary. I'm not sure, but I doubt there are a large number of 300+ pound rugby players that run 4.6 40's. That is a very large man coming at you at a very high rate of speed; if his shoulder meets your head, it's not at all unlikely that you could die. Also, from what I can tell, Rugby tends to be more of an endurance game, where the continuous tackling would wear on you, whereas in American football, depending on your position, you can take a massive hit and break your leg, neck, etc. during any given play. Rugby doesn't have the opportunity for a "tombstone" either, which, if you were to see one, would cause you to never again argue the validity or necessity of padding.

In response to the "attackers" being replaced by "defenders." A modern day NFL roster could never play both ways without sustaining insane numbers of injuries. You would be down to the fourth string by the sixth or seventh game of the season.

When the game was invented field goals (kicking through the goal posts) were worth more points than a touchdown (crossing goal-line with ball). A team is also able to attempt a larger variety of kicking plays: field goal, punt, and kickoff. Other than that, you have passing and rushing, which can't really be distinguished as two entirely different types of plays (in my opinion).

Trust me, Rugby is a lot rougher than American Football. Because they haven't got any padding. I would just say, watch it live before you critisize it. You can easily lose your life, and they've left with many broken bones.

I watched a guy in American football have his eye poped out while playing. I watched a guy in Rugby choke on his own teeth and died. They're both rough.

Though either way, nether sport can be better than the other, because naturally, it's down to opinion.

watch the all blacks and youll know that rugby is freaking dangerous. plus playing rugby is so much fun, who needs padding? just get up from a hard tackle, brush yourself off and get back in the game. thats what rugby is all about. even though im only 16 and play at county level i have seen my fair share of nasty injuries including my friend nearly dying from a broken sternum, and someone getting their femur snapped.

Either way, down to opinion or not I think American football's basically a rip off. But then IU again, I don't really watch sport unless it's cycling and even then I'd rather actually do it then watch it.

Rugby is pretty cool, though I'm not exactly sure how to play. I know it involves scrums and hookers though.

My school used to have a rugby team but they dropped it since it wasn't covered by the insurance. But the team was restarted by some students and teachers in a non-school league, so they still play, just with a different team name and no school logo.

Seeing as you decided to show a picture of a Spanish football match, before declaring that American Football is better than British football, I believe your opinion to be invalid. Besides, it's not British football, or English football, or Spanish football, it's a sport that is played all over the world, and is far more popular worldwide than American Football.

I rest my case.

For some reason, I just don't see any rugby players that are as physically intimidating as Ray Lewis or Shawne Merriman. No matter the sport, I would want those guys on my team, especially Dark Alley-Ball.

There we are.

I'll try and see if I can find it, EMB. I haven't DVR'd any games in a while, so I'll have to search youtube.

BTW: You're talking about the hit Brown gave him?
