If you've noticed I haven't been around much lately, it's because I've been desperately practicing my GCSE solo performance, 'I'm so lonesome I could cry' by Hank Williams. I got good with the guitaring once I recieved the real chords, so I got daring and tried singing with it...but I keep sounding flat when I do both! :S Whoops. But I'll still get more marks for doing both, so long as I don't chicken out and only play the chords while recording at school, I sort of sounded like Johnny Cash if he were a woman, his flat speaking tone sounded great, but I loathe to think my tone keeps remaining the same when it's done better. I don't know why, just keeps happening lately.

I record tomorrow morning, first lesson (the worst time) where I'm nothing but sleepy because it's 9am. I hate that. So wish me luck! I keep gettting confident then worry again, so I need it!

Ok, Good Luck! (there, how's that?)
Do both, sing and play. what the heck, you'll get a better grade. Try almost saying the words instead of making a major attempt at singing. Almost as if you are speaking the words with just a bit of a musical flair to your voice. does that make sense? That song could be recited and still sound good. Anyway good luck Heather. You'll do just fine.
Phipster.

:) Thanks BBT and Phip, that makes me feel better. I get what you mean Phip, casually sort of speak it but not as if I'm just talking, make the tone my own. I'll feel better thinking of all your words while focuseing during the performance.

Oh yeah, almost forgot I'll ask if it's possible I can get the song uploaded. Thought you might like to know how I play and what my voice sounds like so hopfully I can upload it to my computer.

Good luck!

If your voice sounds flat to what you are playing, try playing the riff in a different key. Lower down a half step, or maybe play in a completely different key altogether. Maybe that tone does not suit your voice to its best possibilities! Experiment! You don't have to play the song as he played it, play it as you need to play it. Play to your strengths!

Well done! The best way to get better at singing is to sing along with a song and practice.

Ha, I knew that :) It did actually make me laugh. I'll ask about the recording on Tuesday as that's my next lesson.
