Does anyone know of software, especially for the mac, that could produce keyboard/synth sounds for the guitar? In other words something other than the Roland type of hardware you would normally need to do this.

i use logic, and you can pretty much modify your tone anyway you want with its built in processors.

there's also a virtual pedalboard somewhere online my buddy was telling me about (for mac.) you can mix and match virtual pedals, and create any kind of sound you want.

I have Logic Express. You can do a hell of a lot more with Pro, but express does a damn good job. Logic actually can take garage band tones and you can modify them as well. i know you can download plug ins for it as well, but i wouldnt say it perfect. it has a pretty good amp simulation, as well as a lot of modulation effects and so on. id recommend it if your willing to put the money into it.
