I'm thinking about selling my fender hot rod deluxe and buying a vintage jcm 800 on eBay. My problem with this is that I won't be able to play it first. I have never heard a bad thing about this amp and if I don't like it I can always sell it and get another amp. What do you guys think? Have any of you ever played through this amp?

no me gusta. i dont likey. ESPECIALLY NEW ONES! trash. i mean if u buy a vintage its ok, but get a distortion pedal. not tons of distortion unless u crank it. easilly the best amp ive ever played is a vintage jmp. if u can find one buy it. i dont recomend ebay. try it first. definatly. but some of the BEST new amps made now, and are affordable are orange amps. freaking beasts. there beautiful. clean and crisp. rockverbs are great. dont buy a new marshall, oranges are easily the best new amps, if u wana try a kick ass tone amp that is loud like a marshall but handmade theres a guy that does my repairs he makes amps, rocknrollamps there amazing. his .com is rocknrollamps.com i think. id talk to him about if u dont like it then send it back but there really good.

ive acctually tryed a lot, but one of his cheapest is the bill handy head i think for 700$, its better then any new marshall cept maybe the hw ones. its also MAD loud. tryed it outta a marshall cab. killer tone. if i was buyin another amp its between the orange and one of his, or if i can find another vintage jmp. but def dont buy new marshalls, i dont like, nor i dont think the older jcms have tht great tone, good but certinly not a orange or a rocknrollamp tone. try an orange. and the best tht i can do is send u me playing his cheapest head the bill handy one at the store in merrick and send u a vid clip, he has some vid clips of his on his site. also there basicly old amps that somthing didnt work he fixes them or takes the parts tht work and put them together. he was playing his "frenkenstein" amp, an amp made from like 5 others. he playes it next thing i say is "you have a marshall plexi?!?" and hes like thts my amp, im like **! awsome!

i acctually tryed a couple new marshalls and didnt like any, the hw or the non hw, the new jcm 800, 2000, jvm, there just muddy amps, they dont sound good, ik ur a huge skynyrd fan, oranges have enough gain for them, but not the most pure clean sound, theres 2 diff channels. rocknrollamps is def more natural like a vintage marshall jmp or jtm. in fact i tryed a new jcm 800 and i was like ugh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WT1LXhgXPWs lol.

I think that its more about taste. If you want Slash from Appetite of Destruction, I believe that he used the JCM 800. Its a deeper sound than a Plexi too.
Just find what sounds good to your ears, if you like it, go with it.

slash used a jubille i believe. much different then a regular jcm 800. but yh u definatly have to trust your ears. and the tone is the most important factor. and if your gona play guitar for your life then id just get the best. you may not have the money for a plexi but a jmp non master is like 1500 around the same price as jcm, and is much much better. along with rocknroll amps.
