So, when you first started playing, what is the first song you learned? For me, it kind of holds sentimental value. I felt on top of the world when I got it down.

For me, it was "Mad World", I think originally done by Tears for Fears.

I can't remember exactly I'm divided between two songs but it was the first that influenced me the most.

This one got me into rock.

I can't remember what exactly I originally learned but I think it was some sort of Blues Brothers song.

Wow league you just took me back to the mid nineties with the fastball video.

When I was a teenager I didn't like them, but when I watched that video it took me back and I have to admit I liked it.

Here's another.

As for my first song, I'm not sure but I remember learning the main riff to simple man when I was about 15.

No, actually I haven't seen it yet, though I think I should :P
I find it fascinating how music can set the mood in a movie, proof of its universality.

@Les_Paul I'm actually a Fastball fan and I have been since that record back in 98.
I was like 8 years old and it was the first record I bought so they definitely got me into listening to more music.

I have every record and I'm happy to say they're still going at it with touring and new material.

The solo in "The Way" is freakin awesome and it actually helped me learn pentatonics.

My first song was 'Wild Thing' by The Troggs (?) because it was only 3 chords.

I learn't basic chords but didn't sit down and learn your typical first song..I was shown the chords (my neighbour helped me get back to where I was..I stopped playing for five years after two years of learning nothing but scales and chords) and then just used stuff like 'one' to show how they could be used either whole or in parts..

@Admiral: It's all good man, aslong as you enjoy yourself and your music you could take 5years to learn just two chords but it'd still be cool :)

Back in Black! I played it all day everyday for about a month. I only had the main chords/riff but it was awesome. The first song I learned all the way through was Snowblind by Black Sabbath. It has a sweet solo that is a little bit slower in it but sound really eerie feel to it.

Tony Iommi is awesome. He is missing a bunch of fingers on one of his hands. He lost em in accident involving a saw I believe.

My first song ever was "whats my age again" by blink 182 on bass. On guitar I believe it was smells like teen spirit, and the first solo was fade to black, which took me a while to make sound clear but blew my mind when I first made those sounds. It still drives me to get better.

First song opening riff thing I learned was One by Metallica.

First song I learned all the way through, solo included, was Ain't Talkin Bout Love by Van Halen, because I couldn't really play the solo from Unchained, I learned both riffs at the same time.

Painkiller by Judas Priest, or more so random riffs, I remember being unable how to understand how they got it to sound good, then I discovered palm muting...

Untill now... Minor Threat is the only cover I know, (it's only 3 riffs!) But I know allot of my own stuff so Painkiller is it. :)

I always thought I'd replied on this one. i think it was "Wild Thing" or "Get Back" by The Beatles. Probably "Get Back" though, I probably couldn't play barre chords at that time.
