IMO, Buckethead's Night of the Slunk solo would have to be my favorite.

Yellow Ledbetter's solo is very emotionally stirring for me. I absolutely love how Eddie Vedder introduces it with "make me cry."

Hope, a song from one of John Frusciante's solo albums, also has a great little soloesque thing. It's really a cross between a long fill and a short solo, but I remember being completely blown away the first time I heard it.

I think that Spanish Fly and Goodbye to Romance are the most beautiful solos.

wont lie. this one has always hipnotized me. its literally like makin love to your girlfriend over and over again. jimmy page was godsent. the album version is the first solo i learned. my son will be named either jimmy or page. i admire page, and i only admire people that i need to look up to see them in the eyes. yet he is so simple, not greedy, never overuses speed. if i could choose a guitar teacher and a friend it would be him.

it would be dave gilmour's 2nd solo of comfortably numb on the pulse dvd or neil young's opening solo in cortez the killer.

Oh definately this. I know there's one guy who only does a tiny bit of piano with him now and then, but the majority of it is Johnny Cash's solo. And I know, Nine Inched Nails wrote it and performed did it, but this was Johnny's song. It was truly made for him. I love it, his version of Hurt is very moving.

But if that's not acceptable for you as a solo, I'll say 'Soul Searching' that had recently been done by Eric Barrera.

Che, I Love you for EVERYTHING you said about Jimmy Page, except I won't name my son Jimmy (but probably only because I don't plan on ever having children, hahah!). I mean, isn't he friggin' amazing??!!
Stairway To Heaven - Led Zeppelin
Whole Lotta Love - Led Zeppelin (Short but nice)
Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd
Highway Star - Deep Purple
These are MY personal favorites, although I do realize there are other amazing solos out there.

my absolute favorite guitar solo comes from one of my absolute favorite songs... coincidentally enough from an album titled "Absolution"... the guitar solo from Muse's "Hysteria". i think it's just beautiful, and when played over that bass line... man!

i'm more of a modern music guy than i am metallica or eagles... or even zeppelin or hendrix for that matter. not that i don't appreciate their talent or their emotion, but i identify with modern music better.

For piano: Great gig in the Sky -Pink Floyd

For guitar: A tie between Jammin- Greg Howe
Going Inside-Frusciante (simple yet powerful)
Altitudes-Jason Becker
Padmasana-Buckethead
Brick in the wall-Floyd
Shine on you Crazy diamond-Floyd
For the Love of God-Vai

How can I choose between those? My favorite is Great gig though, just because im moving on from guitar to piano and I am becoming obsessed with piano

I think the Jonas Brothers have come up with some amazing solos, which definitely equal and probably better any of the crappy suggestions you guys have made above.

Afro ;)
