What kind of music program do they have? is it classical or is it more modern oriented? I'd try to cater your skills towards what they are looking for, and show your versatility as a musician.

Focus on Technique and a little difficulty. They don't want to see something so crazy, but they want to make sure they can build off of what you already know.

practice. be versatile on your playing. remember, before playing fast play clean. i like your choice of song. show off the most you can without messing up. show your charisma. and emotion. be enthusiastic

im not sure about the music programs they have, but ill look into that. thanks, something with a little bit more technique then should be my second peice.

yea, that song is awesome. i chose it because, when i play it you can see the passion i have about music, so thats why i chose it.

any ideas though for my second piece ? something simple with a lot of techniques in it,

Do you think your normal 40y/o College Advisor knows who Bright Eyes is? Sorry, when you are applying to school you need to sell yourself. And one important thing to selling stuff is that you need to know your audience. It is better to play something that your audience knows than something they don't know.

Once you get their attention, then you play stuff they don't know. But you'll never grab someone's attention with a very modern song from Bright Eyes.

I agree with Jeff that you must do your best to get accepted by doing your best to impress.
On the other hand I also believe that the college should offer a quality program that will teach you what you need and want to learn.
And that brings us to this quote..........
crislyn23_nt says:

I noticed that sentence and it shocked me a bit. Crislyn23 you MUST find out if the college you are thinking of attending is going to suit YOUR needs too. Interview THEM and if they have what you are looking for and you have what they are looking for it's a match!
Good luck either way.

thanks a lot guys, but i think im gonna go for knock knock knocking on heavens door, and sing while playing it and the pirates of the caribean theme since its instrumental. they said contrasting peices so its better if both are not songs, but one being instrumental.

jeje, i they said im up in a couple of weeks, so this days i think im gonna focus on learning how to read music. good thing though that i all ready know those 2 piece. jeje, wish me luck,

hey, do u guys know whats the difference between the ascending and descending version of the melodic minor scale ?

Yeah, it's only on the 7th note. It gets flattened on the descending? I think?

I don't remember and don't feel like googling it. :-P
