Hey

I got a gig coming up were im playng guitar for my mates band and ive been given just over a week to learn there set, so they have given me the easyish guitar parts, which don't contain loads of playing.

Ok well basically there are parts of the songs were i don't play anything for about 2mins. What shall i do for them 2mins?

Just stand there? Practice some scales? clap? Pretend that im asking someone to get me a coke?

Any ideas? or what do you do?

:D

thanks.

hell yeah!^

you could just walk behind a curtain or go backstage. i think thats really cool that your willing to do that. music sounds alot better when people are willing to make sacrifices like that.

@ Lewwis,
Well, you certainly don't want to do anything that looks like you are bored. That would be an insult to the guy doing the solo. Keep the energy level up in the room by tapping your foot, bobbing your head to the beat, keep moving around. A lot of players will turn and face the drummer for a few seconds, stuff like that. Also flirting with the pretty girls is always a crowd pleaser!!!! (pretty guys too if you are into that sort of thing) LOL

Best you can do is keep the ambience up. You can clap if its a rythmic part. I would sure flirt or invite a cute chick upstage at least. I would do that for serious, well if im not on a relatiopnship already. who knows, you might get to start something serious there. You just dont stay doin nothin there. make some slam there, lots of doable things.

peace

by the way and to not make another thread
does anybody knows an artist similar in style to eddie vedder's on the soundtrack of into the wild?

Don't just stand there, feel the music and party on the stage! You can help the stage presence to get the crowd into it.

Of course, you could pretend you are playing with the band :)

I would ask if you could double up the bass part or another guitar part.

I agree entirely with blackholesun. Not playing anything for an extended period of time would suck. Not to mention you'd probably look a little silly.

why don't you durn the volume donw on your guitar and paly something. It's not going to interfer with anyone and atleas you'll look like your playing.

find a way over .. seeming to be interacting w/ the band.
or
grab another beer.

six of one , half-dozen of the other

OR
Tune (in mute of course) !!
most folks will think yer playing if ya silent tune...ESP if ya face a 'Cylon'(Strobe) and look at it w/ attitude.
...and get that beer!
