So there is the band called Reckless Kelly that are pretty big around here (South Texas). They have this tune called "God Forsaken Town"

It's basically about the Katrina hurricane. But before there is a debate about that, the songs give some digintiy to those who stayed and ended up dying.

When I'm bummed at all i listen to that song and realize how good things are. Even in the bad situation the character of the song is in, he's still fighting.

One of the lyrics

We have a sawed off and a red hot 44 you looters best come heavy when you come busting through that door.

One of the best songs I've herd in a long time (lets not debate gun's either it's just a song)

Well first let's look at the cause of pain and suffering.
This song is usually played at funerals.

The key is to have some Tequila (or Beer) sit back and let it all out like a crybaby.

Plus I like also "Estranged", and I love the outro to "Floods" by Pantera. Pure emotion. "Coma" by Gn'R is also good. Not really soothing but it has that weird effect on me where time like stops and I can only pay attention to that song.

the best songs to listen to for me personally when im in some sort of emotional distress are either Change or Walk by blind melon. or any song on Days of the New's green album. that whole album has a way of calming me down, especially if im feeling real angry or depressed.

here's "change" being played on david letterman.

I also enjoy listening to Hallelujah when I'm feeling a little distressed. I also like listening to anything else plainly with a smooth melody. I don't usually listen to anything in particular, but its often that or 'With or without you' by U2, 'I ain't her cowboy' by George Strait, 'On a mountian when I fall' by Merle Haggard, 'Dream on' by Granger Smith, 'Stardust' by Willie Nelson and Wynton Marsalis or 'Home' by Eric Barrera. Which I listen to most when I'm unhappy though I'm not sure.

Hey Tele :) Yeah more or less I am, I've only got one exam left and my possible new job isn't until August so I don't need to train or anything until then. So you'd all better behave and stay off the chicken! Now I'm getting serious! :P

I'm wondering now, has anyone ever tried delibrately having any of these songs in their heads when they're in a stressful situation? I probably shouldn't, but when I'm stressed in an exam(while answering questions properly thank you :P) or in trouble I always seem to think of 'Friends with tractors' by Rodney Atkins in my head. It cheers me up, am I the only one here who does that sort of thing?

well if I am depressed I listen to Megadeth - In My Darkest Hour
but most of the time I get Angry instead of depressed, so then i start listening to anything by Testament, Slayer, or Pantera.

Scar Tissue always makes me feel better. If I'm in a melancholy mood and not really trying to cheer myself up I'll listen to Videotape by Radiohead. A magnificently depressing song.
