does anyone know what default gauge strings come on squier strats? i thought i read somewhere but now i don't remember where it is. i replaced the originals with ernie ball .10s, and have since replaced those with fender bullet .11s. i'm still trying to figure out which thickness of string i prefer (my artcore has .09s it's very different to play!) but i'm just curious what strings my squier had on it when i purchased it. thanks!

probably 9's, seeing as their target market is more of the beginner players, plus 9's(outside of 8's) are the most pliable naturally just from the size difference.

hmmm that is weird. because the squier had 10s on it when i picked up the artcore, and i immediately noticed a HUGE difference when playing the 9s on the artcore. i don't recall that same difference when replacing the original strings with 10s on the strat.

at the same time, when i put the 11s on the strat i immediately liked the way it felt. the reason i thought i was using heavier strings was because the tension was practically pulling the trem bridge out of the body, i had to add the 3rd tension spring to the trem and it now keeps the bridge flush with the body.

i don't like picking the light strings with a medium pick, but the heavy strings feel a little too sluggish for fast picking... maybe i'll switch back to 10s next time to see how that feels...

I love 10's for most of my playing, but I've recently gone back to 9's mainly because my picking style is actually pretty light(like the very tip of the pick hits the string). string bends were noticeably easier.

man how did install 11?! I didn't try the 11 but i tried the three bass thick strings heavy, so actually i got light-heavy 10-52.. the 10 did fit but the 32 42 52, not a chance they didn't fit into the nut slots! so i just used light 10-46... i usually use medium 11-49 (not on the strat) but now ive changed to light-heavy and they're really awesome gives u heavy sound and the light so u can bend and solo easily.. although i like 11 but sometimes they can be a bit annoying when bending..

yeah the straight 11s are a lot harder to bend than the 9s... especially i've noticed one of the solos i know from zebrahead's "someday" has a bend at the 14th fret of the 1 string... that bend is crazy easy with 1 finger on the artcore (9s) but pretty daunting on the strat (11s)

correct me if i'm wrong, but the .011s are "regular" fender bullet gauges, right? i think they have light (.009), medium (.010), regular (.011) and heavy (.012)... i'm not sure though. the fender brand strings are cheap though, $5ish for a set i don't buy high quality strings or anything.

The squier strat I bought my little brother had 9s on it.
