Hey! i just got the same guitar. But lefty! I chose it over all the guitars in guitar center and sam ash. (which for lefty is an epiphone and gibson LP, and some lower level ibanezs)

I think it is, if you go to ibanez.com, click usa, click solidbody electric, the RG series is the first listed.

Ok, just looked it up. The JEM series is top. The RG series is next in line. Its called the "affordable" JEM

The JEM series is part of the Ibanez artist signature series, therefore all of the guitars in that field are top-class for their particular artist's style of music/playing. However, the range that is considered Ibanez's best and not artist-specific is the 'Prestige' range, which contains some truly stunning guitars. Most of the artist signatures are variations on existing prestige models, and I know for a fact that the top-end JEM and JS models are built from Prestige parts and just have 'JEM' or 'JS' stamped on them!

Don't misunderstand me, there are some beautiful RGs too; in fact I'm almost at the end of a 3 year on-off custom painting and wiring project with a mid-range RG. Pics to follow soon...

I think its great. From nice clean, to awesome distortion.Plus locking nut and floyd rose! (I hate set bridges) Nice and smooth. A little heavier than im used to though. Sweet black pearl (lightning?) inlays. Everyone else i know loves it too and wish they had one instead of their starcasters!

I used to think RG was the bottom, but i'm not a big ibanez fan. I had an SA160QM, but I traded it for a tele. I think its just like every guitar co. and its just a different guitar. Like strat vs tele, LP vs SG, and so on. I think there are good RGs and bad RGs with a wide price range. Saying an RG is the top Ibanez series is like saying a strat is the top fender series and there are some people who will debate that to no end. Just my 14 cents.

domigan i believe that the inlays are "shark's tooth". don't quote me on it, but on most ibanez solid bodies they have a shark's tooth design on the inlays, not sure if ALL of the solid bodies have them or not. my artcore has dot inlays.

Ive rarely seen the "sharks tooth". Whenever i see an ibanez i see dots. Except mine and a Jem i once saw.

Even on the ibanez website most have dots.

really? huh, i guess i just notice them when they do have the shark's tooth inlays, and don't notice them when they have dot inlays. i was actually just on ibanez's website earlier today and all the ones i looked at i saw shark's tooth! i guess i'm looking at the wrong ones...

also, they have a LOT of guitars. and they all have names like RGA3220T. it's hard to keep them straight!

Yea, its hard to keep them all straight. Its like remembering Serial Codes instead of names.

Just Noticed, mine is an RG5EX1L. Whats the extra L for?
Ps. Made in April 2009
