I think the Major and Lydian scales meet the criteria for a 'beautiful' sound. However, the scale you use largely depends on what Key the song is in and what chords are being used. Rave-On

uhm..what if the tuning of the guitar is in drop d...?must i tune the bass in drop d??

not neccesarily. just providing the guitar and the bass is in the same key. the same thing works in reverse too. in the song By The Way by RHCP, the bass is in drop D but the guitar is in standard tuning. if you wanted to double the guitar part then its best to be in the same tuning.
