I was watching that guy from the arctic monkeys, in their video for "you look good on the dancefloor" or whatever, and i just couldnt help notice him playing his guitar up by his armpits! the guy looked like the steve urkell(<-- not spelt right i dont think) version of a guitarist, no offence to the guy, but thats the only "Reference" that i could think of.

I remember that guy from the ramones slinging his guitar around his knees almost, and i thought thats kinda extreme, but it did look kinda cool.
the lower it gets, the harder it becomes to play, the higher it is, the easier it is on your wrist, making it easier to fret the notes and stretch your fingers around everything. (but you should know that if youve experimented with strap heights)
but there comes a point where you look like a bit of a goofball.

How many of you really put much thought into what kind of strap you use?
whats more important to you? looking kick-ass vs. reliabilty

most of the time i'll just grab the first one that grabs my attention, and even though its always falling off i'll still use it cause it looks nice.

He's comfortable playing that way.. i think its easier to play the guitar if you wear it high cuz high notes are just hard to hit when the guitar is so low..

+ you have better stretch with your guitar that high :) i think you shouldn't wear your guitar low if you play worse that way , just because it's more cool to do...

well it's all their own choice:)

indeed its cooler! i actually envy those people who can play wearing their guitar low. i also have small fingers so, i think its quite impossible for me to play that way.

alot of what you guys said -was- in my post, but it got deleted for some reason.
the guy that played for the ramones, he slung it all the way down to his knees!
aparantly its also bad for your wrists.

well, everyone always says "what are you doing playing it so high? it looks stupid like that." because apparently you're suppose to have the guitar at your balls and you gotta make it look like you're fanning your balls, lol. but honestly though i don't think it really matters to much. if you have to sacrifice some image to sound better when you play, by all means do it. because i'd rather look funny than sound funny. whatever is a comfortable place for you is what works.

Homeschooled,
I'm sorry, that was a "bug" in forum script.

i wear mine so it is at a pretty good angle when i play in the middle so it is more like i am playing sitting down, and as far as straps go, i have since lost it but during my punk phase i had a seatbelt for a strap which was pretty cool back in the day

I've seen the seatbelt strap. Never thought much about straps until i was playing a friends guitar while he played drums and in the middle of the song the strap popped off and i had to hold the guitar with my left hand only. luckily I was playing a G or something and had most of my hand on the guitar. there comes a point when the guitar gets so low I think the idiot playing must not be playing anything too difficult.
