I just found this on the internet. An anagram to help remember the modes.

I Ionian
Don't Dorian
Play Phyrigian
Like Lydian
My Mixolydian
Aunt Aeolian
Linda Locrian

a good thing which I found out a year or so ago is, if you learn all positions of the Major scale starting from the low fret, then you also have the different shapes of the mode straight in your head when it gets to remembering the patterns.
