mine actually change from time to time. It all depends on the mood and what I am practicing at the moment. But my all time favourites are Paul gilbert, Eric Johnson, and Brian Haner Jr. What about you?

My favorites include:

Jerry Cantrell
Kim Thayil
Dave Knudson

But honestly, I try to absord some sort of information and learn from any player. I firmly believe that in anything, not just music, you have to understand that everyone can help you progress in some manner. From complete novice asking you what seems like a simple question which gets you thinking to a subject matter expert, everyone can influence you in some way.

yep, he writes some amazing music, but when hes going for the heavy distorted riffs it kind of gets lost sometime.

i'm not writing any of my own music so i don't technically have any influences, but some of my favorite guitarists to watch perform are the local guys who play at the blues bars in my neighborhood. actually just last weekend was soulard blues fest, a two night celebration in my neighborhood (soulard, st louis) with 20 bands and 10 bars. all within walking/stumbling distance from my front door!

two of my favorites: steve pecaro and alvin jett. steve pecaro is this big fat old guy who plays a lot of blues rock and he just wails with this relic stratocaster that looks like it lost a fight with a belt sander. the best part about him is he just wails on the guitar and he makes it look so effortless. he almost looks bored while he's up there playing.

alvin jett on the other hand is somewhat meniacal. watching his fingers while he plays he is stupid-fast, and he has this ridiculous grin on his face it looks like his eyeballs are going to pop out of his skull. in contrast his backing band (phat noiz band) is mellow just kind of bopping their heads to the rhythm.

i'm telling you, if you are ever in downtown st louis... i know where there is some good live music...

I saw an add/video for Bogner amps and if this is the same guy I totally agree. The guy can wail even while he's making all sorts of weird faces. I'm gonna see if I can find that add again.

hmmm look into that but i'm not sure if it's the same guy. i don't think he is that big to get his own advertisement video, and pecaro plays through fender amps so it seems like a conflict of interest to advertise for bogner...

i don't think he makes weird faces, but my favorite thing that he does is he lights a cigarette and then holds it between his right 3rd and 4th fingers while he plays. then he'll strum a long note and take a puff of his cigarette while he lets it ring.

I'm only going to say Jimi Hendrix. Honestly he had such a way of changing the whole rock guitar sound that was just so revolutionary. He transitioned out of the two options of either psycadelic guitar with psycadelic sound like pink floyd or the power chord then solo sound like pretty much every other classic rock band and he combined them and made beautiful musical fusion. I dont know where music would be today without him or Led Zeppelin for that matter.
