What do you really want out of the guitar? Plus what styles do you generally play? Try an Epiphone Casino. Brilliant quality and playability for the price!

I think semi-hollows, in general, are the best guitars for the money. The materials and craftsmanship are much more complicated than solid bodies yet they are cheaper overall. I'm talking about the Ibanez, Shcecter, Epiphone models in the 600 to 1000 dollar range of course. These are great guitars for the money.

i have a chinese-made ibanez AF7....3? 73 i think. it's a double cut, no pick guard, semi-hollow body. i paid $250 for it off craigslist. yeah, $250. for what i paid, it's an awesome guiter. it sounds loud unplugged (for when you want to do some practicing late at night), the humbuckers are great and offer a contrasting sound when compared to my strat. it's a nice looking guitar and despite being made in china, it has a lot of nice features like a set and bound neck.

i like it. an epi dot would be nice, the salesman probably didn't like it because he's a salesman.

I'm a hollow body fan so you there are a few different styles that you may need to decide on. there is the big box hollow body's like the Gibson es-175 and thin body ones like the the es-335 dot's. some of the thin body ones will have a slab of wood running up the middle. This will give it some hollow body tone but will cut down on some feedback.

I've got a epiphone dot from the 90's and it's pretty solid. I picked it up on craigs list for around $200 a couple of years ago.

I've also got a Gretsch 5160 i picked up on craigs list for $500. and it's a delight to play. but it does go out of tune some because of the the bigsby and not quite being setup right.
