it's a concept album about space!!!!!

The rebirth of intelligent life will restore this planet's cosmic status.
As the surface draws into focus, every variance and nuance realized.

The simple birth.

Time is moving forward.
Elapse. Evolve. Expand. Adapt.
Adaptation runs parallel with surviving global conflict.

Sustained permanence proves imperfect existence, integrated.
Balance is reached between the parent star.

Endless motion.
Now the experience is long gone.

We won't forget it's entrancing stare, as long as we recall it's grip.

Stellar forces are keeping us alive.

yeah but thats not what makes it the best metal album ever. and the space thing is very atypical for that vein of metal. maybe it didn't blow you away like it did me. but give it a chance i didn't really get hyped on it til a few listens in. there is alot of subtle complexity and
unique ideas. i can't get enough of it, if you listen to the entire album it is a major trip.

@emp i dug that it was cool! when it comes to metal though i really only get into prog stuff like that and btbam. thats what i love about the contortionist they are progressive but not just shred bull**. it's musical! the use of odd time sig's and funky grooves as well as heavy breakdows that ARNT in every other metal song. they still have alot of shred parts but it's tasteful. it's brilliant!...well to me at least.

Yeah, Im on to prog style but I think for me it little depends on the mood, what style I dig at time, Overkill, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius and Amorphis is that went to cd player most of the time when it time to have some metal evening :P...

Did I just see metal being played on a rickenbacker bass? That is awesome. I'm not into metal that much anymore but I really liked the middle part of that second video coleman posted, but its the least 'metaly' part of the song. I used to listen to metal a while back, but I just got tired of it or something. I could see myself buying that album, though. I liked the first track too. I like how both tracks give a little break from the face melting you receive in the other parts of the song.

Overkill actually slightly reminded me of motorhead. I've always wanted a rick.
