You said that Mark Tremonti wasn't a real guitar player cause he wasn't as good as Rusty Cooley or Jeff Loomis, so is that rule-of-thumb just for Tremonti then?

idoes anyone remeber that mark tremonti was once a member of creed, one of the 90's aka the anti-guitar eras most successful bands.but he seems to have changd his evil ways and i applaud him fir it,but in a technical sense his ,technique does not come close o the likes of rusty cooley, jeff loomis

gshredder, I don't think anyone has a problem with gmg preferring the likes of those guitarists, I think the issue here is saying Tremonti isn't a "real" guitarist. It's a pretty negative way of viewing guitarists.

It's not unlike when gmg said people would be happy if Justin Biebers died. It's just not really appropriate.

Yeah just cause they play a different style doesn't mean they arent real guitar players. I consider Bob Dylan a real guitar player, just as i consider Yngwie Malmsteen a real guitar player

I consider someone to be a real guitar player if they don't refer to 5 colored buttons and "star power".

Hhahaha!!!

Yeah,i dont like tremonti either,i think guitarmastergod's statement is 50-50,yeah he is not in the category of ubershredder with the best chops,as many seem to think but He does good riffs and songs and that = effectiveness (wtf) so yeah, not a good shredder, but not a bad guitar player.

I don't know. I think all these guys are just as good as the other. I'm sure they are all "different" in their own way. My point is that there is no need to trash a guitarist just because you don't like him/her.

I'm not that big on Tremonti or Creed or Alter bridge but I like his right hand work. So many guitarist neglect the right hand when it plays a vital part of guitar playing. I did notice that in this video he is doing stuff that I never heard on early Creed ( I've never heard the newer stuff) so IMO he's gettin better.

Yeah. It's funny, my right hand wants to play staccato and my left hand is very legato. Meaning I want play hard-fast choppy with my right hand but left hand wants to play smooth continuous notes.

I don't know if that makes any sense.

For a long while I just honed in on speed picking.
I got faster than I could see my hand. But it all sounded the same to me.

With my new guitar (pics to come later) I've adopted a whole new way of playing that puts my old metal style to shame.

I'm not a speed picker myself when it comes to my solo style(lots of legato runs with only 1 pick per 3 notes per string)

My riffing however uses a ton of fast downpicking(it's heavier sounding to me) and a lot of quick triplets(like on Battery by Metallica).

I might get shunned for this but as far as shredders go, I think Steve Vai might be one of the more talented.

I played some last night and I discovered something: If I play blues/pentatonic scales, two notes per string, I could play a lot cleaner. When I play 7 note scales I do the 3 notes per string thing and play faster and I economy pick. Down,up,down, down,up,down. But, when I get going faster my right hand wants to pick more/faster and I get hosed up.

I'm getting better though since I came to this forum in 2008! Just talking about it with ya'll and trying new things.

can't we all agree that music is music regardless of the techniques used to create it?
