i bought my first slide ever today and thought id ask for suggestions on songs to learn. Just so i get familiar with the slide before i start making my own stuff up. im looking for very popular tunes. I know of "in the time of my dieing" by zep but i want something more solo like. Not really chord like if that makes sence.

Thanks for any input you all can give.

Hey Nullnaught I got up that will get you going

Come Together - John Butler Trio!!!

The solo is a bit hard, but you should be able to work out the rest if you give it a try.

i just saw a slide band perform this weekend. "brown bottle fever". one guy with an ibanez artcore (just like mine!) and a slide, and another guy with a harmonica. that was all it was. oh also, the guitarist had this stomp box thing that was wired (peizo pickup?) that he was using as percussion.

that inspired me to go home and tune my guitar to open G. i'm pretty shocked at how easy it is to make your guitar sound bluesy in open G. so easy! have fun with your minor chords and scales, though...

The thing you are referencing, El Shred Dos Mil Cien y Doce is a very expensive version of a wooden box. I looked up a video of a bbfever song and it looked like the cheap version.

I use a tamborine to stomp on sometimes.

Yea I checked that out, then I posted the above. Many people put a mike wrapped in a towel inside a wood box...but yea...there is a $300 version availible on another site too.

GS2112: I looked up one of their videos and the guy sitting down with the Artcore seemed to have a big wooden crate. i dunno.

it may be the same concept, but the box these guys used was definitely home made. it looks like it was constructed out of plywood. when you think about it, they aren't too hard to construct. build a wooden box, put a microphone in it (or a peizo pickup, or whatever).

and yeah it was pretty big. maybe 4' length by .5' tall by 2' deep. it was covered in duct tape and stickers.

i'll have to remember to look up videos of them when i get home...
