If your going to create a home multi media studio what computer would you use and why?

Is there a computer that is specifically designed for this purpose?

I found some desktops ranging from 800 to 1100 that are built with the intention to be used for music production. Loads of space on the hard disk and a lot of ram to run high power DAW programs.
I just googled "computer for audio production" or something similar to it.

Luckily this area i have a good amount of knowledge on. iMacs are pretty solid for this purpose if you don't mind their OS. Logic Pro is nothing short of genius for recording. So easy to use and everything. Generally the computer should have plenty of RAM (4gb or more) as you'll be running quite a few processes at once, and like 500gb of memory would be sufficient.
I'm not sure how much you know about computers like if you want to build from scratch or get a prebuilt one. Although building yourself is much cheaper for what you get, do risk if you have no idea what you're doing. What sort of budget do you have?

fwiw, the laptop I bought through Dell about a year ago has 6 gb of RAM and 500 gb of hard drive space, and it cost $700 out the door. You can get a computer now to handle your music needs, as well as basic other needs all rolled into one computer for a relatively low price.

Depends on use of computer. In multimedia purposes (graphics and sound) lot of Memory (more important than processor speed actually) and low latency soundcard is a must if you goin to do recordings or composing and use of virtual sound technology.

You can do it with Desktop or a Laptop, it dont matter. 1,8 - 2,3 ghz dual core processor is good enough to do the job, better... well everything is just faster....

remember that if you use windows operating system, if you dont have 64bit operating system its useless to have more than 4gb RAM memory, because 32bit operating system "not understand it" and cant use the more...

well... quite late now, ask if you have something else in mind...

Well I learned something about maxed RAM from EMP, so it's a good thread.

Maybe he'll return. I wonder why he asked for it to be deleted? He could have just gussied it up. Come back Nullnaught! I have no pinky technique. I plant it usually.
