maybe try finding some other guitarists at your level(neighbourhood , online) and compare with them instead of those great guitarists :)

well , i know what you're talking bout , i quitted for a few months for the same reason , i thought well what makes the difference , there will always be hundreds and hundreds better then me

then you have to find out what you want to achieve with your guitarplaying , and it can be as simple as making nice songs , getting on stage , achieving a certain a high level. It can be your goal to get as good as the great, but take it step by step:)

to look at how much you have improved, its good to record some things composed by yourself each month and when you feel your not improvin, take a look at how you were yesterday....
you can also try learning a solo that really amazes you. for me it was stairway to heavens solo, i had less than a year playing and someone told me about this soloand i inmnediatly got it on tabs and learnt it(i lasted only a month and a half to achieve).... and it made me feel i improved a lot. take your time, sometimes songs look hard but they arent so hard and sometimes sound easy but are fuckin hard

never give up,
cause the day you give up on guitar you give up on yourself

Hey Shred,

I've been playing 53 years, and had 2 major record Co. deals and worked all over the world playing for 25 years. And still, about once a month, I encounter a youngster who hasn't been alive as many hours as I've practiced, who yet plays circles around me. Really, REALLY good guitar players are a dime a dozen...you can throw a rock in any direction and hit one. There is so much more to it than how good you play. I seriously doubt 99% of these kids who play better than I do stand any chance of having the career I've had. Big nasty egos, non-stop partying, drugs and alcohol and general stupidity and lack of social skills...these things screw up music careers far more than bad playing. Learn to play your best, sure, but above all, learn to play and communicate with other musicians. Learn to value the art and quality end-product and hope the super fame passes you by, because THAT's the phoney part.
