You should have put a "other" option.

Dave Murray and Adrian Smith.
Mustaine and Friedman.
Glenn Tipton and KK Downing
Paul Gilbert and Billy Sheehan (he shreds like its a guitar)
Frank Zappa and Steve Vai
The Various guitarists who have been in Steely Dan

I know it's not metal, but any Allman Brothers Band line-up. Duane and **ey, **ey and Warren Haynes, Warren and Derek Trucks.

Trivium!

Jason Becker and Friedman were monsters in their time. But their styles are outdated. Everyone loves those guys, hell, I love those guys. But their playing is not timeless. That was then, this is now.

Dragon Force suck and the others on your list don't come close.

Trivium all the way.

+1 that was my first thought but as it's not there I'd have to say trivium are the best out of those options

Oh, I forgot it was "metal" guitar duos. So subtract Zappa and Vai, and Steely Dan from mine. Even though they are great duos.

I voted for Becker and Friedman (sounds like a law firm!) but I really like KK Downing and Glen Tipton.

I've always thought of them as the boyband of heavy metal...

@guitarmastergod
I think I was the first, but only because they are the only ones I listen to (though rarely) up there

A7x is the "hipsters" of metal.

I could easily vote A7X... some of them are pretty strange phrasing, but most of the time I like their sound. They work pretty cool on stage and play well together so...? I give it another vote ha!

(is there a little line between rock and metal?)

I really wonder how no one mentioned Iced earth dudes eh?

I would vote for Trivium
Corey and Matt (IMO) are the best among the list..
Especially in "In The Fire - Roadrunner United" :)

Not sure if you guys know this band, but I have to say this two guitarist are more likely the most skilled yet melodic guitarists,
Hizaki and Teru.

Since the question was Metal Guitar Duo, (not heavy metal) i'd say Robin Guthrie and his own ovedubs (from the Cocteau Twins).

Where's Murray and Smith from Iron Maiden? These guys had some of the greatest harmony duel leads and trade-off leads ever!

There are so many misses here. Freidman and Becker are arguably the best, Bullet for my Valentine and Atreyu shouldn't have made the list, the guys from AV7x are alright, Dragon Force is a joke... so that leaves Trivium.

I absolutely vote for Trivium out of this group. But like I said, so many misses.

I wouldnt call dragonforce a joke. They play music that they enjoy, and people buy there albums. If there a joke,I would also like to be a joke...As assinine as it sounds. They may be sorta kooky and shreddy, but I respect them as artists. Trivium is cool, and there guitar sound is just as digital as Dragonforce. Id prefer Herman and sam's tone over trivuim though.

But what it boils down to is opinion. Some Ax7 is ok. Bullet for my valentine is a bit noisy for my taste.Atreyu is ok. Becker and friendman are no doubt baddasses, and the winners.

Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew of King Crimson should definitely get a mention if we're talking guitar duos, the interplay between the two is quite awesome. Tell me this isn't metal.
