Why aren't there as many successful female guitarists as male? it just doesn't seem fair.

Fairness has nothing to do with it. There just isnt cause the majority of guitarists are male.

We have some talented females here, jazzmaverick, heather, ledzeproxx.
But them MAJORITY here is male.

But if you did some research, you would find that there is alot
of famous female guitarists,

Agreed with Gshred-though something else about it irks me.
If there were more female guitar players(doing more shred oriented work) we wouldn't have cute girls that are only moderately talented hogging all the attention(okay I'm guilty of watching Jacquline92-I just don't think she's as great as people say). I feel that there is an unfair bias as to what is acceptable from a female guitarist and a male guitarist. It's not exactly fair nor should it be this way, but I think that if a girl plays guitar, regardless of how talented the individual might be, they will usually get props because they play, whereas from my shoes, I have to really make an impression otherwise I get the inevitable "I could do it better".

Women! Play more guitar! Or drums... I need a drummer.

They make all the music they need to with two slices of bread, some deli meat, and some condiments. Zing!

Sorry, thought the thread called for something distasteful.

yes joan jett and chrissy hynde are girls we know who play guitar. But can you come up with a riff or lick or even solo they made up that guitarists like to play.

How many guitarists sit down and try to learn a lick or riff or anything that female guitarist composed?

It may not be up your alley, this style of music (Pop...) but here ya go. I've checked who wrote these songs as well, since most pop music can be written by someone else and sung by a performing artist. All of these songs have been written/produced by a female body.

Lisa Loeb - Stay
Alanis Morissette - Ironic
Tracy Chapman - Fast Car
Shania Twain - You're Still The One
The Cranberries - Zombie (Was written by the female lead)
Sarah McLachlan - Angel

I'm sure some, if not all of these songs you know. Although, I do agree that I had to hit the 90's to find guitarists, since most music nowadays is electronic...

Yeah Jeff, you hit some good ones. This may not be an amazing guitar piece, but the musicianship is amazing and beyond whatI could ever hope to write. Another Sarah McLachlin tune. I wish more people wrote quality music like this. I don't care if this makes me lose credibility with the metalheads. :D

I think a beast female guitarist is one of MJ's old guitarists....i think she did dirty diana.

if anyone knows who she is please tell me....all i remembe is that she was a tapper and she tapped the flight of the bumblebee...i learned a sweep tap thing from one of her vids a while back.

I know one Female guitarist.
We're like twins. We both play lefty, we've both played for the same amount of time, we play the same style, we are the same age, and when I first met her, we literally had the exact same guitar (same Epi LP, same color, even had dark spots in about the same places)
I say she plays better than me, she says the other way around, and other people say we play about the same, but she has to be the best Guitarist in the area we live in, but she only plays for fun, and to pass time, so I'm one of three (or somewhere around there) people that have heard her play.

Maybelle Carter.

She actually a huge overlooked influence in guitar playing in USA music. Merle Travis gets the spotlight more but I'd say their equal in importance, just people are still Travis picking a bit.

And not to be sexist or anything, but guitar is a more common male interest, thats just how it is. Jennifer batten was pretty good.

EMP ive played with the "Mystical Girls" here in MX,they suck big time!! BUT because they are "hot" and they are girls, everyone loves them, now thats what i call UNFAIR.

In fact,me and the guitar girl are somewhat rivals....hmm...not the best of times.

Desiree basset is not that great either, but she is young, who knows what she will be in some years.

But i may show to you a friend of mine, she is by far the best ive seen in a long time! much better than me! Jessy here:

I have noticed that a lot (almost all) of harpists are female. Orchestral brass is mostly men in my observation. Guitar, mostly male. Perivian Flutes, always men.

Im not actually sure what you meant chris, but looking things up from youtube is quite easy... think like "big grey mass" does.

1st trick
write "HOT (you decide number here) year old woman/girl guitar player

or

2nd trick
write "AMAZING (you decide number here) year old HOT CHICK guitar player.

pick one and start happy browsing XD.

Thanks AlexB for that post, my jaw was dropped during the entire video. What an outstanding talent. Big thanks for sharing.

If this was played by a boy i think I'd be just as amazed
