So am I Mosh. I've learned mostly on my own by watching, listening, and books. If I could go back 35 years or so, I would take lessons and go to some music school for guitars. I'm happy with my playing today, but I would like to have been better when I was young.

I was self taught with books and magazines for a while before I went to any actual lessons. I realized very soon after starting lessons that my teacher wasn't going to offer me anything new other than a condescending attitude (his personality is not one that fits the role of a teacher) so I stopped going. I really think that is the way to do it though. Learn a bit for yourself and then go see someone to kind of smooth out some of the edges and then go back to learning things for yourself.

I taught myself all the theory I know(with this place AGC here being the catalyst for jumpstarting much of my understanding and knowledge), and all the technical aspects have been learned through basic practice, learning licks, and tabs. Honestly since Sinesthetic has come together I have learned more in the last few years jamming than I ever have on my own.

Hi,

I'm self taught too, I firstly learned by the tabs, then with the chords, I don't really know the scales (I feel it's boring...) and I just try to know how musician "build" their songs, I do the same with my imagination.

I play for around 5 years. I sing too.

I don't know if it's because I still have some lacks, but sometimes when I try things, or play a good chord progression, I don't always know what chord I played. (Obviously I know the : C, D, Dm, E, etc, even some weird chords name (IMO) as D7, A7, because I use to saw them on Neil Young/Other artists) but there's this kind of chord that I just discovered its name, as : G# m7 (I often use the "chord name" section of this site)
