Welcome to the forum! This is the one website I come to when I'm out in the field. This site will probably be my only source of entertainment when I get to Iraq in a couple months, so get used to seeing a lot of me :)

a big welcome to our new members from the 'other olden-farte', Carl!

(our other resident olden-farte, Phip has probubly already forgotten he posted in this thread, it's been happening more and more of late, but don't take it as a sign of dismissal; he loves you all almost as much as Jello and Shuffleboard..really)

glad to see ya here!!

I'm a professional musician who teaches Guitar, Gig's, and Masters cds for a living(and a portion of what once was my soul)
SO
ask me anything sensible and I'll try and help as best i can :-)
...that is , unless ya ask "what mode goes best with___" or some such crappola lol along those lines..

RAWK!

I am Mason. I hail from Halifax Nova Scotia Canada. Ive been playing guitar for about 2 years now. Prior to guitar i played bass. So all in all ive been playing stringed instruments for about 4 or 5 years. I draw a heavy influence from folk, punk, and rock. I tend to avoid mainstream music. If I must listen to radio it is the good ol CBC Radio 2. I am on a strict nicotine caffeine diet. Besides that my idols are Neil young, Billy Bragg, Joel Plaskett, and David Gilmour.

I've been using this site for a while, and I never really bothered to check out the forums, but I'm glad that I finally did. It appears that we have plenty of knowledgeable and friendly posters on here. My name is Jason. I live near Chicago and am currently going to college. I just turned 20 and have been playing guitar for the past 4 years. I enjoy creating my own material and am trying to learn more theory now. I'm also trying to get around to practicing more, haha. I look forward to talking with everybody.

hi to everyone, i'm new here. i've been playing guitar (strumming only)on and off, i buy song books with chords and try to sing and play guitar but the problem is i only know the basic chords and if i don't know the chords especially those split chords i would stop playing and get frustrated. So, i resolve that i will really learn how to play not only strumming but picking and other techniques and i hope you guys can help me.

Hey all I am one of the newest members to this listing. I have been playing the guitar off and on for about 10 years but do not let that fool you, I've only been playing seriously for about over 2years. I grew up listening to the guitar as my father was a Flamenco Guitarist. I love the Classical and Flamenco styles but I do not stay in that genre as I love a good Heavy Metal guitarist as well as Jazz, in other words any guitarist of a genre who is good and not necessarily loud I like. My favorite Heavy Metal guitarists are Slash and Joe Satriani they are masters of the guitar! Glad to be in the group and I am looking to learn and broaden my guitar experience. I welcome all messages!

I'm Mark and I just joined really only to get advice. I've been playing for about a year, but I'm not that good but I'm not a beginner. I don't really listen to any sort of genre but my favorite things to listen to are Modest mouse, Jimi Hendrix, Silversun Pickups and the such. I have a Mexican Strat and right now I don't have an amp :\

Welcome, amps aren't really necessary when starting out, and if anything, it's better to practice clean before you add all the effects since you'll notice your mistakes easier than you would with effects.

You saw Green Day? That's awesome! How'd you get on stage? That must have felt great.

Welcome apollos, PummeledByFoliage, Wezly, Fastattk and Mr_ka2, Domigan's right we do seem insane here (I'm a little sorry to say I think my posts might sound the barmiest?) But there are still some half-sane, smart users that can help you out with anything you want to know about guitar here. So don't be scared away!

Hey, uh... I'm Mills, and I'm assuming that this is the place where you introduce yourself???

Yupp, It is, so anyways, I'm 13 and I've been playing guitar since I was 10. I love it. Music is life. Yeah, I like alot of music, but as of now i'm in a minor gigging band called The Krumms, we play punk music (yes I know bring on the insults.) and have an amazing drummer and bassist, as to my "skillz homie", I like to be modest....

So yeah, I'll probably stay at this forum awhile. :D

Hey everyone, some of you know me some of you don't.

Im an artist who happens to be drawn to music. I have an eccentric taste in music: I love jazz, fusion, grunge, bossa nova, art rock (tool), and classic rock.

I am currently in schooling for an art education major, but am switching to astrophysics as its been my longtime "hidden" passion. I love to talk about the universe, parallel theories, and theoretical physics.

I have been playing guitar for 6 years, piano for 2 and drums for 1.

I guess many of you have already seen me around on the forums, but I'll say hey in this thread anyways. I am really new to playing guitar and have found this site to be very helpful in learning about the guitar and basic music theory. Also, I have found the peopleon the site to be extremely helpful as well with answering questions. Just focusing on learning chords and progressions atm. Really like indie rock, metal, and grunge primarily.

My name is Michael. I have been playing guitar on-and-off for about four years now, so about one years total experience, although I have found I prefer to compose music than actually play it. =/ I am nineteen years old, and I tend to listen to anything that pleases my ear. I live in the good ol' US of A. =]

Well anyway, thought I'd introduce myself to you guys.

I'm Jeff. I'm 40 and feeling like an old man after reading through this thread. :) I'm a former Marine, been a truck driver for 15 years and decided to go to college and learn to play guitar at the same time... just a few months ago. Both are going well. Hobbies? Studying it seems. I also teach aikido and women's self defense seminars with my wife. Glad to be here.

HI Jeff,
Welcome to the forum! If this makes you feel any better I'm 56. That should make you feel a little bit younger (until you realize it aint' forever). LOL College? What are you studying? I could use a few self defense lessons myself. The "kids" on this forum have been beating me up pretty bad lately. :)

Thanks for the welcome, Phip. I'm studying to be an LCSW. Licensed Clinical Social Worker. The specialty is cognitive behavioral therapy for the men and women of our military who are having trouble re-adjusting to civilian life and suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. It's a "been there done that" scenario for me as a vet.

As for the self defense on the forum... the log off icon is the best technique I've found on the martial arts forum that I frequent...leaves less bruising. :)

When my wife and I teach a seminar I rattle on for nearly an hour about common sense, how to avoid an attack, the rule of the 3 stupids and what to do after an attack... even if you successfully defend yourself. My wife then gets to use me as a punching bag for the next two hours as she demonstrates techniques for everything from a domestic abuse stand point up to a full on sexual assault.
