Well first off, sorry if this is in the wrong section it seemed the right place.

I've got a Squier Stratocaster which is pretty decent for doing blues and clean sounds, but I'm looking for a more high gain guitar to play songs like 'For Each Remembered Name' by Beneath The Sky, 'Education' by Technocracy and some Black Sabbath ones.
I'm also running through a small 10Watt practice amp at home due to lack of space and living with my parents, but I go round my mates and take my guitar into school to play on the 150Watt Combos at least once a week..

What I'm interested in buying:
Fender or Ibanez Guitar (Suggest other brands if you want), Humbuckers or EMG pick-ups, 5-way toggle, 6-string, not black or white in colour.

Price Range:
£200-£600 GBP ($393-$1,179 USD)

Notes:
Dislike the telecaster placement of controls and the Les Paul style round body guitars.
-I'm right handed.

Well that's it, thanks for reading and any advice you can give me.

O.o hrm hrm hrm,

So you want more gain, well lets see.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ESP-F50-Electric-Guitar?sku=516677 -Might like, but not the best
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Schecter-Damien-FR-Electric-Guitar?sku=513103 -Darker looking and sounding guitar, easy playablity,
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Ibanez-?sku=519786 - very good versitility, and very thin neck for shredding action.
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Ibanez-RGR421EXFM-Electric-Guitar?sku=512459 -heavier wood, for a warmer tone

basicly go to a local music store, and play every guitar in there, untill you find the one you like, or you get kicked out. But suggestions can help narrow your search ^_^

I just came back from the music shop...I'm very angry.
their's a second had £600 Ibanez RG Fixed series, Floyd Rose, though body stringing, Demorseo (Ugh spelling) Hums on the bridge and neck and a sc in the middle, emerald green with a sparkly finish.
For £139

I didn't have my card so I couldn't get any cash out then my Step-dad who's the driver said I don't need a new one right now due to 'lack of space & moving into a new room soon'...it's going to be gone in a few days -.- ...

I agree with Wicked on the Damien-Fr- but be carefull it has a Floyd on it(dont get me wrong I have a floyd and love it)its just not for the begining player...and it really not that bad it just takes some patience, and I think its a licinced not a true floyd. And of cource the Emg.I was going to get one but I choose my Kramer instead tho its not a gainful guitar but it will be LOL(I like to tinker to make it my own).

okay I found what guitar it is, but it's been modified by the previous owner to have:
-Floyd Rose Tremolo,
-DiMarzio® IBZ humbucker pickups at the Neck and Bridge and a Single in the middle
Its in Mirage Green and has black hardware.

We'll they have a floyd on it and what I'm saying is that it is a floating tremelo meaning that the strings tension and the spring tension allmost have to be the same to be set up right, and also if you change gauage of the strings it has to be set up all over again but once you have it set up it doesnt go wrong, well allmost never go wrong, and tuning can be a pain at first but once you get the hang of it(little tricks)its outstanding!

Of cause, if you do go ahead and buy this exquisite piece of highly strung timber, G.Slinger and I might never talk to you again for beating us to it! Am I right G.S?

Haha I'm s save up for that :D But I'm getting an Ibanez 1570 Prestige hopefully tomorrow, my sisters owes me something after missing two birthdays and a Christmas -.- I just got to pay some back as she doesn't get paid a lot.

Where's the best place to get a cheap hardcase that can fit my strat and Ibanez?
I'm not taking the Ibanez into school in my softcase, specially since one of my cables has been damaged, had my heavy pick nicked and my strat going out of tune due to mistreatment by the non-guitar players in school.

I got my last hard case off Ebay for about £30. I suppose it's as good a place to start looking as any.

Good point, but the last one I got I had to pay a quid for the gig bag, which is now 6years old, still waterproof, no holes. only bit of damage is the stickers coming off. How's that for quality/Price balance?

E-bay is pretty good indeed, might ask round my mates first they might have a spare, loads are going from guitar to bass.

There's a few that have been playing for 3-4years now, who play both bass and guitar. But like its all the people who have been playing less going to bass.

That's probably 'cause they think it's easier to be a John Paul Jones than a Jimmy Paige. I think they might have a shock in store!

My mates told me to try bass, due to the style I play (these are the veterans who play both) and I just find the action to high for me.
My fingers are long and sleek perfect piano fingers until you come to the joints on the pinky, index and middle finger of my left hand, it's like I've broken them but don't remember there slightly bigger and my pinky doesn't straighten out all the way.

if u want to play a bass then play it but dont be forced in, because in my opinion guitar is more fun to play and you can play it by its self, with bass your always missing somthing, dont get me wrong theyrs some gr8 bass players and some gr8 bass parts i just feel guitar is more fun.

Yeah, I really enjoy the guitar, it's alot more versatile opinion but because I pick like a bass and sometimes slap along to my own bass style riffs my mates suggested it.
