Max price: $500 (maybe $550).

I've been looking at Epiphone, and Ibanez so far, but I want suggestions from you guys first.

I was looking at a couple of 'schecters' the other day. They played well and are in your price range. I didn't play them 'plugged in' though so I can't tell you anything about the tone.

What kind of music are you looking to play? For metal, I would go Schecter or Ibanez. Rock or blues, I would take a Fender or Epiphone.

for metal id look at the ibanez, but for everything else, good tone everything, the BEST buy on any starting guitar is the epi plus top standard. its fantastic, plays, sounds like gibson. there used so check up about it before u buy (not making them anymore). i put my guitarist and golfer rep on the line (im beast at golf btw, like a 6 handicap) its the best guitar 4 the price

get a hollow body. britpop is like Oasis, right? look at a dot or an casino. Ibanez also make great semi-hollow body guitars. I think this style would fit your needs well.

Yeah, I think I'll go hollow-body. I was looking at the Dot and one of the Ibanez Artcore's, but I've always been an Ibanez man, so...

Jackson is the best for Metal. Other than that A Gibson LP or Fender Strat.

Not so sure a jackson fit's the whole britpop thing. just like a dot would not work for metal.

You can't really say 'Jackson is the best for metal' really, considering it's subjective. If it was a standard for metal, then all popular metal guitarists would use Jacksons (which they don't). Infact, I heard that a lot of pro Jackson guitarists switched to ESP.

It really depends on what kind of metal you're talking about aswell.

I got a Epi Les Paul Standard PLus top for $499, and it is my favorite guitar. I've had it for a year and use it all the time.

im guessing it was new, and no 600 was the price when they were new. 500 must have been like on sale, or maybe it was an older model of it, but they play absolutley fantastic for a epi.

Jacksons are mostly for Thrash Metal but Metal is Metal. Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica,Steve Vai and some hair metal bands used Jackson before. After that Metal kind of went downhill. Notim probably agrees and he's from that time period. Jackson guitars definetely not for britpop.

I just think that say... some metal bands can make better use of ESP or Ibanez. Some Jackson. Some Gibson. Etc.

Zakk Wylde plays an LP. Steve Vai plays an Ibanez. Jon Donais plays ESP. Dave Mustaine plays Dean. Dimebag played Dean. Metallica plays ESP....i could go on...my point is, the guitar you use is preference. not because one guitar is better than the other.

(obviously im not talking about comparing brownsville strats to a custom carvin)

If you decide on a Les Paul Plus Top you better hurry cause a few months ago Musicians Friend had them listed for $499.99 but I see that they now have them for $549.99 and they went up in the shop near me too.

Blue is my favorite color
